The question is very black and white. The immediate emotive reaction is "yes, of course", but the issues require further thought. Prison is not intended as vengeance. It also may not be the most appropriate way of re-educating an educable abuser. Hardcore and repetitive abusers are different. One can argue that an abuser could not be repetitive if they were jailed, but one knows about repetitive behaviour prior to conviction the first time. I'm very concerned about the children. When I was a kid we had a maths master who used to fiddle with us through our clothes while marking our work. We just treated it as a "thing Mr Pye did". We knew our testicles would be squeezed if we got a sum wrong. We were 8 years old, and ignored it. Should he be in jail (assuming he is still alive)? I can't think of a single reason. I wasn't harmed, haven't abused anyone and didn't care. That didn't meant he was right to do it, it just means we were unaffected. If he had been jailed, WE would have somehow felt like victims. We didn't. So no, not all. They should be assessed carefully. And then handled according to what will work best while seeking to reform them.

No. I know it's not a popular opinion, I know I'm going to get downrated. Laws need to be changed in order to distinguish abuse from consentual couples. Right now there are MANY teenagers who have been convicted of sexual crimes against a minor for engageing in acts with a partner a year or two their junior (sometimes a year or two their senior as well). These cases are ridiculous and end up with people on sexual offender lists who are of no harm to the general population (in that respect). Also I think pedophiles do not benefit from any sort of prison system. I think in North America (and in other parts of the world) prison systems are more effective at breeding criminals then they are at correcting problems. I think a good alternative is manditory Pschyciatric treatment along with enforcable rules about being around children, possibly in adult only communities, I don't know. Prison won't cure a pediophile. Not sure therapy will either. In fact, I don't think it's "cureable" at all. That is just their preference, whatever the reason may be. I personally think it's a sickness that will be with that person for life. For example, let's say I like dark haired, ruggedly handsome men with 5 o'clock stubble and chest hair. (Oh, what a coincidence, I do!) That's my personal preference, and I highly doubt anyone will be able to change the fact that that's what turns me on. So shoot em. I don't wanna pay for a free ride for them for the rest of their lives, after the poor kid they molested has to deal with it the rest of their lives.

It is a proven fact that prison and therapy only help a extremely small percentage of child sexual predators aka pedophiles. With that being said I think a better solution would be to let the parents of their victims have their way with the accused then take em out back and put a shotgun blast right between their eyeballs so society will be rid of the scum.

I think they should. There needs to be a negative consequence for the action. It won't cure them, but it will give them incentive to not do it again, even if out of fear, some incentive is better than no incentive. Besides, if a child sexual abuser come out of prison alive, it'll be a miracle. I hear they aren't treated very well in prison. After their punishment, they do need counseling and they need to put forth an effort to avoid those situations. Repeat offenders need longer sentences until they no longer can walk freely. I understand that reforming a child sexual abuser is very difficult. I also understand that a person is mostly attracted to people of the age group in which they were first exposed to sexuality, so with kids getting sexually active or intimate at such young ages we are creating a whole generation of potential sexual deviants.

Absolutely. Criminals of these sort should be literally "cut" out of society and should undergo capital punishment. Its my perspective that molesters, rapists, batterers breed off of the leniency of today's justice system, globally. By the same token, perpetrators who are proven to be mentally unstable from much earlier on due to whatever reasons stemming from the past, and if there's substantial evidence of this after psycho-analytical evaluation -- these are the people who should be placed under rapidly progressive therapy whereby there are checks/balances to ascertain whether he/she is potentially a candidate who can or will be rectified hopefully. These people should pay with the only the heaviest price for their twisted crimes against innocent chidren. Its all really controversial though really, especially when we're living in world where criminals seems to have more rights in a court of law as opposed to those who're victimized. personally if it were up to me (which it isnt "thankfully"), enforcing swift justice after being tried and found guilty would be the only option -- execution. It depends on what you call child abuse. If you mean molesting or sexually interfering with someone under the age of 16 who isn't ready for sexual activity, then yeah, they should go to prison. when i was very young, i was raped. My abuser got away. a few weeks later, he raped and mured another little girl, and got away. I beleive that all sexual abusers, not just child abusers, should go to jail for life, so that they can be raped over and over, and over again to know what it feel like. That man took away my childhood, and got away with it. No person, except the rapists, should ever have to suffer like that. Its even worse for the victems, when they have a daily reminder that they were raped, because the rapists gave that HIV. A few months ago my rapist was killed in a car crash. I asked the M.E., and she said that it was a very fast and peaceful death. He never got a chance to suffer. and now he never will.

I definitely think that all abusers should go to jail. Noone has any right over anyone else's body unless the other person gives them exclusivity. A child is not able to do that because at most times they are not strong enough to resist. So I say, lock away and throw the key away.

I think all child sexual abusers should be castrated (but since that is not the question...yes they belong in prison). I do know there are circumstances where a person is a "Registered Offender" yet the crime was something like an 18 yr old having concensual sex with a 16 or 17 year old and ends up being convicted of CSC. I think there should be a system to prevent this type of stigmatism in that type of situation. It would be awful to be 40 yrs old and still being seen in that light because of something that happened 20+ years ago.

Depends on their age, and the age of the "child." Some people have to register as sex offenders because at 19 they had a 16 year old boy/girl friend. In their case, no. In cases where the two are not peers, couldn't be in the same school together, or one is not in school at all... yes, they should be imprisoned, and receive intense psychotherapy.
