I hate shrinks. After months of ineffective medications, the last straw on one of mine was when she said "Well, I was going to either put you on Prozac next or Zoloft...but since I have Zoloft in the free sample case, we'll try that" W T F . . . My freaking BRAIN is being treated according to what's IN STOCK IN THE SAMPLE CASE?????? Fuck shrinks. "Modern" psychiatry my ass. Dartboard medicine...I'll take my own chances, thank you very little. /rant just my $0.02

Please talk with your doctor. If you don't have one, you need to find one. I spiraled out of control with depression after my second daughter was born and almost lost my husband because of it. It's very important to tell your doctor the symptoms you are having! It will be okay, he will most likely prescribe you antidepressants and recommend you talk to someone to work out your issues. After seeking help, I did a 360! I feel like a better person. I was eventually able to wean off of the antidepressants also. I know it feels scary to ask for help, you may feel embarrassed or like you will be judged. But, that's not the case. My doctor takes antidepressants even. Mental disorders and the same as having any other treatable disease. Nothing to be afraid to speak up about! It's very important you put your pride aside and seek some help because this will continue to escalate. I hope the best for you because I know how painful and confusing it can be to have mental illness. Everything will be okay if you talk to a professional. If you can't find a mental health facility then please talk to a primary care doctor for a referral. I hope you the best in your way to recovery! You spoke up on here and that is the first step on your way to getting better!

I can give you some references you can consult. I have to agree with Borderlinux about shrinks. They follow the salesperson too closely. http://www.helpself.com/ http://search.yahoo.com/search;_ylt=A0oGkwTq4oJH5T8ByH1XNyoA?fr2=sg-gac&sado=1&p=self%20help%20sites%20mental%20health&y=Search&fr=&ei=UTF-8&vm=p

family counseling helps sometimes, but i don't really suggest meds unless you know you need it. a psychologist cant give it, but they are better with talking so you don't become dependent on drugs to make your brain feel better. and tell your friends, closest people that you might be...well paranoid to some minor degree. just tell those closest to you and yes get pro help. there's no shame in asking for help when you know you need it. there's no reason for you to go through this alone. you shouldn't have to. i hope for the best for you

that depends. personally, i'm heavily biased *against* the mental health community. because the kinds of drugs they prescribe aren't as well researched and they don't understand well enough how they work on the brain. they're also proven to cause a person to become chemically dependent. that said, they are warranted in some cases. i took them for a period of time in my life when i needed them. since then, i've gone off of them due to pregnancy and chosen not to start taking them again. i learned to gauge what emotions are valid and which ones are just funky brain chemistry. i've also taken a nutritional approach to treatment, the most effective being taking an l-5htp supplement every day, along with fish oil. maintaining healthy, nocturnal sleep is also very important. l-5htp is less expensive than prescription drugs, more effective (in my case) and has no side effects except for slight drowsiness until you get used to taking it. the compound is the precursor to serotonin in the brain, so what the brain gets it converts directly to the serotonin it needs instead of artificially forcing it to prevent reuptake of serotonin. this is a much healthier way to maintain proper chemistry balance in the brain.

For those who suggest running to your doctor for help with emotional issues (or otherwise), let me remind you of a report based on a study in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA - July, 2000) which stated that doctors were the 3rd leading cause of death in the U.S. due in large to "properly" prescribed drugs, misdiagnoses and failed surgeries. Mind altering drugs often lead to suicide and murder, including the shooting rampages that are becoming more frequent in society, as are the lawsuits against the pharmaceutical companies that produce these psychotropic drugs. http://www.drugawareness.org/home.html For safe and sensible advice on how to cope with depression or any other health issues, check Dr. Joseph Mercola's website, one of the most trusted alternative medical sites on the net. Type in your query in the site's search bar. http://www.mercola.com Manic-depression (renamed bi-polar so as to be more acceptable to the public) appears to have become an epidemic and I'm certain much of it is linked to the foods we eat. Nutra-sweet (aspartame), MSG and the myriad of chemicals added to processed foods have many serious side-effects to them. Start eating a diet of mainly raw vegetables and fruit and take up an exercise program. I'll wager that you'll feel like a new man and that your love life will flourish.

I know its hard to get help from a doctor. It took me years and I just now called and set up my appointment with a shrink. I wish you the best, I have the rage and depression but i do not have the joy, but I know it is difficult. See if there is a cope center in your area or a place that people go when they mentally break. Many of those places have shrinks that will see you without you being admitted. That is how I just scheduled mine anyhow.

Please find professional help. Facing our fears is the only way to go. We all have them, and you seem to be aware that there is more to life than living in fear. Best of luck to you. Get well.
