  • The names repeated are just for cuteness and informality. People do this when naming toys, animals, story characters etc.
  • Chinese is very different from Western languages...repetion, among other things is used to stress something... as: ren means a person..ren ren means everyone...man means slow ...man man means very slowly...the chinese language also seems to like 2 sounds together..it gives the language its characteristic 'sing-song' sound.
  • Many terms for things are also repetitive, like in the family; nai nai, ye ye, ma ma, ba ba, ge ge, jie jie, mei mei, di di, shu shu, etc... tai tai means mrs. after a surname, like Wong tai tai. you can say yi dian dian to mean "a little". Xie xie, of course, means thank you.
  • as it is considered cute. And that not just for panpa, its a name for human as well.
  • It is a way that Chinese create nicknames for juniors, especially children.
