'Whew! It is awfully hot outside!' An interjection is one word, at the beginning of a sentence, that shows excitement or emotion. It is set apart by an exclamation point (or a comma, if the feeling is not as strong) and usually followed by a sentence ending with an exclamation point. Typically when you are writing an expression, it is alright if it's in a personal letter or in quotes by someone in a story. It is not used in essays. What I would do is completely take out that expression and leave the main point. You are basically repeating yourself if you leave the sentence the way it is. I would just say: It is awfully hot outside. You could also put in "today" or in a specific location and compare the weather. For example: It is awfully hot outside in Florida/today. It would not come to a surprise to see someone boil an egg on their driveway with this weather. Something like that. I hope this helps.

grammatically speaking, they are both right. But repeating the word "awful" every two words doesn't sound very varied.
