  • I made sure it was a negative on my Trans Union, Experian, etc. by getting my free credit reports. When I saw I had a negative from a gasoline credit card and it was inaccurate, I was told to write the card company explaining my reason for the request to remove the negative. It worked but took about 3 months to get it straightened out. Always get your free credit reports each year . . . stagger them so you can get one every few months . . . that way you can pretty much make sure nothing negative gets on your credit and if so, you can take care of it right away.
  • I got in over my head with debt a while back. I did not want a black mark on my financial history, so I toughed it out and curtailed my spending quite a bit so I could pay down the credit cards. I've got about $2,000 left before last credit card is taken care of, and my credit scores are at around 790. I should be completely free of revolving debt by May, at which point my wife and I will take out huge loans to go back to school. <sigh>
  • yeah im currently going through one. luckily iwas able to get preapproved for a 0% for one year card and got a free balance transfer, and i will be able to pay that off now that i have a steady job and no girlfriend to eat up my money. also, if you have bead credit and need to build it, a good idea is to get a partially or fully secured credit card. these require you to put the money down first so that they can take it if you miss payments, but if you pay on time then you will find that you are establishing and building credit rather quickly.
  • I have two jobs and still live happily with my mom. We pay, between us, roughly $500 each a month in rent, bills, and everything else combined. I can save up 10 grand in 6 months just putting a third of my earnings into savings. I've never owed anyone anything, and I'll start school next summer. I stay out of debt by just not spending what I don't have. I refuse to even get a credit card to pay for groceries mid-week. I just don't understand why it's so hard for people to accept living within their means.
