  • Only if God commanded it. However, as things stand in society these days, I don't see that happening (i.e. God commanding us to resume the practice of polygamy; not that I would claim to know the mind of God). With the current moral decay of society (i.e. the increasing acceptance of homosexuality, court mandated acceptance of gay marriage, the general attitude that anything should be allowed between two (or more) consenting adults, it would not surprise if some time in the relatively near future some court will strike down the anti-polygamy laws. However, I doubt that God would reinstitute the practice just because the law was struck down. As we teach concerning this doctrine, monogamy is to be the norm unless God specifically commands otherwise. He institutes the practice for His own reasons. What those reasons are, are not always clear. However, I suspect the that primary reason for instituting it in the 1800's was fulfilled. *********** Addendum I should probably point out that polygamy is legal in many African nations. However, the Church does not allow its practice among its members in those countries.
