I'd like to trust the person that represents me in gov't -- if he or she is a liar, I can't trust them.

Everyone lies once in a while. But when someone fabricates stories, like the ones the news has been reporting lately, you really have to wonder what else they are lying about.

Because they always lie for votes.

Naivite and a lack of historical knowledge?

.. because they are not savy enough to know how.

Really. We should be used to it by now, accept it and move on.

Because people expect honesty from others, particularly those who represent and speak for us. It's become passe to joke about lying politicians, but if a CEO promised one ting and failed to deliver it, he would lose his job. If he lied about certain dealings, he might be legally culpable. There is no reason we shouldn't demand honesty from politicians, just as we do other leaders in society. Anything less is apathy and only allows the cycle to continue.

Because in a democracy, we LEND our power to our voted party. The PEOPLE rule, not the government, and that defining aspect of democracy was buried somewhere along the line. These are our REPRESENTATIVES, and when they lie, they mislead us, and spend our money, our tax, on stuff we never really wanted or needed, but the government made seem important. Did you know that, in order to even keep any nuclear weapons in the EU, Europe needs to give every bit of information on THEIR people to the US. It is a deal they have. The EU keeps US nuclear weapons, the US gets info on every single resident of the EU. THAT is a LIE to every single person there in the EU, because they probably don't even know about it and if they did, the government would try to tell them it was for their safety. Why does America need info on every resident of the EU, and why are they willing to give up nuclear weapons to have it? It's sick, it's unfair and it's happening in every democratic country. WE are supposed to have the say, THEY are supposed to execute anything we ask for - that's why we give them our taxes, OUR money. But instead, they brainwash us and do things for themselves. Absolute power corrupts absolutely.
