Can someone please define rightwing and leftwing (politically speaking)? Does it have anything to do with being liberal or conservative?

yes. right wing is conservative, left wing is liberal. allthough these days its' harder to tell whos' who

It has everthing to do with the political spectrum, although liberal and conservatives are not the only parties. from left to right(on the political spectrum): radicals, liberals, moderates, conservatives & reactionaries. :)

Another way to characterize it is like this: leftwing seeks to adapt law to make it fit present day conditions, rightwing wants people to adapt to old laws because they worked before, they should be able to work now. As an example, conservatives don't want gays to marry, because they've never been able to, liberals say the old laws are wrong, gays should have the same rights as other people. Conservative thinking is "work with what you've got" liberal thinking is "if it doesn't work, fix it". Both have their virtues.
