I was watching Scooby-Doo one day and a friend of mine who is a Pentacostal said it was evil because Scooby can talk. Do some Christians really believe this? (she was very serious her Pastor preached a sermon on Scooby-Doo.)

I suppose all Disney films are straight from the devil? I think the preacher needs to do more teaching out of the Bible and worry less about a harmless cartoon.

I've never heard that. I'm a Christian and I love Scooby Doo! But I did recently learn that Scoob and Shaggy are supposedly always high. Thus they constantly have the "munchies." Not bad, huh? Also, a woman I know said that the first Scooby movie was satanic cause it was like Scrappy was stealing souls, which is sac religious. I didn't take that away from it at all, though. Some people read too much into things.

Scooby Doo is evil because he takes those illicit Scooby Snacks. It's really code for SHROOMS! Look at all the weird stuff he sees.

I can't see a connection. It's a cartoon, does that mean Bugs Bunny is evil? Simba from the Lion King? And they speak perfectly, Scooby is more of a dog, mangling his dog sounds to talk.

Of all the things I've heard from crazy Christians, I've never heard that. I've heard things about cartoons before, though. I think the pastors just like to tell people what to think. Happens all the time.

No , we do not as christians believe the SD is evil b/c he talks. That would knock out every fairy tale, including Bamibi. However , as the mother of 4, I do have problems with SD when his shows our centered on the evils of black magic, like the oriental spirit of destiny in his CD released last year. I just have to be very picky on which episode I will allow my kids to watch. Talking animals are great. Every child with any imagination at all pretends that their pets are speaking. You can find evil in anything, if you're looking for it. Unfortuntely, we spend a lot of time looking for it. As a Christian, I often shudder at the antics of the moronic few that make us look and sound ridiculous. I had a friend tell me my dragon pictures were evil. I said, "hello...not real...doesn't exist...it's a picture..."

One of the famous American evangelists made a mountain out of mole hill over the Teletubbies! You'd think ministers would be out ministering to people instead of flipping out over cartoons and little kid's shows.

Does your friend ever watch other cartoon charactors? Mickey Mouse, Tweety Bird, etc., they certainly aren't evil. I'd be more concerned about the suspicious smoke he and his friend create. And no not all Christians think like your friend or her over zealous pastor.

Unfortunately, there are those fanatical few that are looking for just about any excuse to condemn. Unfortunately, people like this seem to not be able to tell the difference between fantasy and actual evil. They get so caught up in their own narrow interpretation of the Bible that they loose perspective of life. All such people really accomplish is to turn their religion into a mockery of what God intended. It is sad really, but such people do exist.

As a Roman Catholic I can assure that there is no official stance on the evils of Scooby-Doo from our parish nor the vatican. Therefore we can watch it without any chances of damnation for it.

Yes. In case you have not noticed, there are many differing denominations of Christianity. Some denominations are more extreme, some less so ... some are more orthodox and take the Bible literally, to the letter, while others take the Bible as a general guide, so of course some will agree with this while others will reject it. This Scooby-Doo example is a bit more obscure than others. One of the many more obvious differences between denominations is this : Catholics & a few other denominations sometimes pray to Mary and/or some of the Saints ... while certain other denominations feel this is evil because they feel only God deserves prayer and praying to anyone other than God is breaking the commandment "Thou shalt have no other God but me". So really, consider carefully, "what are the chances of Scooby-Doo and his talking causing you to abandon all reason and join Satan to battle against God?" ... and what are the chances of asking for forgiveness for watching and laughing and being forgiven ... ???

NO, Scooby Doo is evil because: 1) No matter where they go, SD is NEVER on a lease. 2) No pooper-scooper in the Mystery Machine. 3) Bad example of what to feed a dog (sandwiches and dog bones?) 4) Ascots? And polyester slacks? 5) Needs a Cable knit sweater, but wears a Miniskirt?

Well, first, it's a cartoon. Second, is doing the chicken dance evil since humans are acting like chickens? If you look hard enough, you can find the occult in everything. i have watched every original show of scooby doo as a child and I do not believe in ghosts, or talking dogs. But if she likes she can go back to the Old Testament and hear about Balaam and the talking donkey that saved his life. Numbers 22:21-31. What do you do with that talking animal - and he was real.

First its not always the religion its the Pastors that run the church we used to attend a church that would talk about animals during the church service and we had no idea why so we stopped going any Preacher can tell you anything and the way I was told by a very good man that loves his relationship with God not the religions that are based on theology and man made laws,, he told me that if you watch a movie with for instance killing in it or play a game that has killing and it puts bad ideas in your head then you can then feel it is wrong but if you watch something or play a game and you know it is solely entertainment and you do not act on what you saw then there is nothing wrong with it and Scooby Do is just a cute cartoon and if a minister says its evil then he may have some issues of his own and I would reconsider attending that church ,, I am so sorry that you are having to listen to that nonsense because a minister should be more concerned in preaching the word of God
