I can't agree with either of those descriptions. Short-sighted perhaps, because being bi-lingual could be a great advantage later in life.

Ignorant. The kids will easily learn English at school and from communicating with friends.

Being bilingual myself and not having taught my children Spanish when they were younger I can understand they may have reasons for not teaching them. In my case I did not teach them till they were older because in my family it was the only language the adults could have a private conversation even when the children were around.I had nosy kids. LOL

Personally I believe that it's beneficial to people to be bilingual. If they were my children, I would want them to know both languages. However, that being said, it's their choice.
