  • Technologically, we encourage relationships and networking. But it takes personal contact to enhance and deepen those contacts beyond the superficial. My gut feeling is that "intimacy and trust" are becoming more difficult due to the pace at which we live, and the issues which divide us. Sad. points for the Q!
  • There are many opportunities for human interaction; we just need to avail ourselves of them. Technology opens many doors for staying in touch with people over vast distances. It can also be an excuse for isolation. We do need human touch in real time I believe, but we can also communicate quickly, effectively, and in a complimentary way with modern communication tools.
  • Let me illustrate with a short story: a couple want to open a care home next door to me for people with mild learning disabilities. 24 out of 25 households in the street have voted against it because they SAY the property prices will go down; it'll lead to too much traffic in the street; and (from one enlightened individual), they 'don't want mentals wandering around'. The neighbours aren't talking to my partner and I because we're for the care home. What kind of world is it when people think they have a right to dictate who lives in their street?! I despair.
