Democracy, human rights and religious tolerance going too far the wrong way. If ANYBODY wants to work in a specific job they should take the job as a whole or not at all. + :o)
-
They don't have to serve alcohol, but they MUST dispense the morning-after pill and any birth control pills and devices. I made the sucky Christians in my country do this and your Muslims should be no different.
-
well trust me if they tried this with me I would take them to court ...thats there job and I don't give a rats ass if they don't like it then they should be sacked ...bloody joke
-
If you are hired to do a job, you do it. If I become a glass blower and decide that I don't want to make vases, I should be let go.

Note how the pro-choice crowd are all for denying a person the right to choose to NOT participate in an abortion by forcing pharmacists to dispense the morning after pill. Yeah, you really are in favor of choice. . Someone should never be forced to do something that is morally repugnant to them. One of the other people who answered this question likened this to blowing glass vases. Well, I don't know of anyone who has a moral problem with glass vases. However, there are lots of us out here who have a moral problem with the wanton slaughter of unborn children. We can argue about the rights of the unborn until our fingers fall off from all of the typing, and that won't change the fact that many people consider it immoral nor will it change the fact that you are trying to force your ideas of morality onto others. In trying to force pharmacists who don't want to dispense the morning after pill to do so or get out of that career, you become no better than the bigots of medieval Europe that denied the Jews the right to own land simply because they were Jews.

If they work for the pharmacy then the should sell whatever is in the store, as that is required by their job. That's their choice to stay or go because of the conflict with their beliefs. However, if they own the store, I can't see how not stocking any product because of how you feel about it is also your choice. It's your store, you can sell (or not sell) whatever you want.

serving alcohol you can get round easily by not working within the off license area of the shop. but the refusal to give the morning after pill is wrong. they are there to do a job and serve the public not inflict their religious views on us.
-
Are you serious? If so, next time I am in the UK I will boycott both stores! I think this is a form of racism. They are forcing non Muslims to do extra work because they are not Muslim. That is discrimination based on race - racism!

Wait a few more years and see what happens. I have left already, am 1000 miles away and have my cannons pointed at Westminster, just in case. :)

its outrageous, muslim people come into this country and we bend to their every will. we have halal mortgages which only muslim people can have, my dad is forced to not put up christmas decorations because we get complaints from offened muslims. (my family is not christian, we are hindu/sikh) my family has happily integrated with the british culture i can't see why muslim people should get everthing they want. if i went to a muslim country and tried to do anything muslims try to do here i'd probably get beheaded. its ridiculous. racial tolerance has become racial fear.

Several opinions here... many valid points. I believe in personal choice... you have the choice to do a job that doesn't contradict your beliefs. You can choose not to drink.. but you do not have to consume alcohol to sell it. You can choose to think that an unwanted child should not be brought forth and thrown to vicious orphanages or that killing a united group of cells imbued with the devine spark of life, destined to live is morally wrong and murder... So long as it is your job to sell a morning after pill or your job to serve alcohol, that is what you must do. If I were working in a pharmacy and I were a Scientologist, do you think I should refuse to sell any kind of SSRI? Would it be right? If I were Hindu and worked at McDonald's, could I refuse to sell hamburgers? Would I be allowed to keep my job? Of course not, and the same applies here. If you don't want to sell what the job requires you to sell.... find another job. Just as an eco-Pagan wouldn't run a slaughterhouse... An anti-abortionist shouldn't be in the position where he must perform abortions. A recovering alcoholic, ten years sober shouldn't run a pub. It's common sense to me. Do the job you've been given, if it offends you, find another.
