Well, I don't think violence can ever be "turned around" but certainly, society can get better. Youth violence tends to be a result of crimes of opportunity. What needs to be done is an end to opportunity. Youth crime is a rising trend because there are more youth getting out of school earlier than the rest of the working world. This may not be favored by many, but a LONGER SCHOOL DAY with INCLUDED MANDATORY EXTRACURRICULARS has done wonders in other countries. While their young adults are not as worldly or street smart as our nation's, they are certainly more socially controllable and adjusted to becoming productive members of the low free time work force.
