  • It has existed since the beginning of human existence. It contains factual History. Would it have transended so much time, carried on by so many people, since the beginning of man, if it didn't hold truth? those who were the first people, were there to see for themselves how factual the bible is. they passed it on to their offspring, & on & on & on... & here it still is. to not have it at all... all people would care not at all about doing Wrong... & what kind of world would this be then ? it would be a hell on earth... many non-believers contribute/cause that essence/vibe/atmosphere/reality.
  • Also, some people try to downplay what the bible says is a sin, & call it "human behavior" instead. there are signs/karma that confirm to us certain acts that are sins. for example: promiscuousness produces stds. stds are a form of karma that confirms that it is wrong/sinful to be promiscuous.
  • Yes, it was. A religion composed of Pagan religions, forsaking the same religions with the added threat of going to hell.... it seems pretty much like it to me.
  • I'm not sure if it actually controls human behaviour - but certainly it influences it. Which leads me to think that the tv and daily newspapers have a huge influence on us... I wonder if that is not more of a control thing..?
  • If it was, it has been a dismal failure, hasn't it? People are still taking the Lord's name in vain, murdering each other, committing adultery, drinking too much, fighting wars, and generally disregarding the Bible's advice to act towards each with selflessness, wisdom and compassion. The Bible also contains warnings about relying solely on our own faculties to understand what God is - the Book of Proverbs is a good read for this; the modern world is the perfect embodiment of this as people rely on their own 'common sense' or their own myopic self-vision to conclude that nothing exists if they can't see, feel or touch it. All by itself, no book can control human behaviour; even with 'enforcers', most books are eventually discarded by their target audience as the number of enforcers can never be high enough to cover all the bases. We all begin the search for truth and meaning when we reach the age of reason, and we should never give up until we breathe our last. That's why I do not believe that the Bible is man-made: I have not found all the answers that I am searching for in it, all by itself. I believe that our Creator meant for us to keep searching, and in searching, become closer and closer to our source of life. The Bible is not the only work of Scripture in Christianity, although you would never know it from hearing some Christians speak/write.
  • One of the main purposes of scripture should be to control human behaviour, another purpose being to inform. However, there is an inventive, exploitative tendency in human beings, and it is possible for scripture to be faked or, if genuine in origin, to be corrupted by man. But we also have healthy skepticism, reason and a growing collection of proven human knowledge (science) and we can use these to discern which part of scripture is probably “man made” and which part is likely to be supernaturally inspired. If any informative part of scripture contradicts proven science without any credible explanation then that part is most likely to have been “man made”. If it can be shown that any controlling part of scripture will not have a long term beneficial effect on human society then that part too is likely to have been “man made”. The Holy Qur’an (HQ) is asking mankind to examine the HQ critically to make sure that no “man made” parts have crept into it. It says in HQ 4:82. "Will they not then ponder on the Qur'an? If it had been from other than God they would have found therein much incongruity."
  • as you all have somehow compared the bible and evil goin on in the world right now, it is kind of stupid as if you read genesis the first book of the old testament it explains the creation of the world..in the creation god made man and he made woman from the rib of the man. he also made the tree of good and evil, and teh fruit that was there would then teach the humans about good/evil...when they were created they were both pure, they were not ashamed and knew nothing bad only good....god forbid them to eat the fruit..however the story goes that eve ate the fruit and so did adam, and thats when they became ashamed of themselves and needed to clothe themselves and it went from there.... later in the bible ( also in genesis ) it says god was so angry and mad and heart broken that all of his descendents were run by evil that the world was so damned by evil that he had to destroy it and start over...more like a cleanse....then that leads to the noahs ark story...and it started over again where the world became more populated....the reason we still now to this day know why there is good and evil is because noah was a descendent of adam and eve which both knew good/evil from the start so it carried on with him and then populated the world.... now back to the question of the bible being made to control human behavior....the bible was made as a guideline to help people live their lives rightous because we were all created in the image of god..the bible is a guideline to make it into heaven and live eternally with no hunger, or thirst.. the reason there are wars and the reason we have corruption and evil is all related back to the genesis story of noahs ark, and there really isnt anything god can do about it now unless he destroys the world and starts over again... which he promised he wouldnt do that anymore...the bible wasnt meant to control people, however to help them live a life of peace, harmony, and solitude for them to make it past the pearly gates one day.... the bible wasnt made for everyone becuase there are many different religions and athiests...who are corrupted by their greed which is explained by the serpant or satan...the same way eve was seduced in the garden people are being seduced by their greed which is the devil and evil... the only rules that there were to control human behavior were the ones given to make it into heaven to be with god. these are known as the10 commandments that he bestowed upon moses to tell to the people of isreal and others who are followers of jesus... overall there isnt any controversy of the bible in my eyes because i am roman catholic and i believe every word in the bible, and i try to live by the book although i dont always its becuase i am human and god gives you the choise whether you want to live in eternal peace or eternal damnation.. thats my opinion
  • Bible is a good book for those who wants to know how to live in this complicated world, but if the question asking about who made it? in my opinion it's very hard to answer. Because in the Bible, I can't understand which is God's words or Paul's words. And some verses was lost (see Mark 7:16, Rome 16:24 etc) and I don't why they were lost. In my opinion, to control our behaviour it depends ourselves. The Bible, Al Quran, Torah, Talmud, Tripitaka, Weda and all Holybook are just some kinds of guide for those who wants living in peace.
  • I think the Bible was made to guide people, not control them.
  • I have been studying religions and the bible and the more i read the more confused i get. God says false prophets will come and false religions. Well what is the true religion and the true church. I am scared to go to church incase i go to the one god doesnt approve of. How do we know what chrisian religion is right as they all disagree on scripture and prophecy
  • I belive that the bible was the words of God, But it's not any more.....men have changed it to (control human behavior) as you said.
  • The Bible is a collection of books and letters thought to have been inspired by God but written by numerous authors, in different locations and in different languages over a period of perhaps 1,500 years. The content of the books is diverse and includes creation accounts, histories, genealogies, poetry, wisdom sayings, law, covenants and prophecy. Despite this diversity though they share a common feature, which is that their authors were not aware that their writings would ever be included in a collated work like the Bible. So there can be no question that the books and letters were written with a single specific purpose like controlling human behavior. . If you were thinking that the purpose of collating the books and letters to form the Bible itself was to control human behavior, then to a degree you are correct. The primary purpose of establishing a formal canon was to define those texts that the early christian church considered to have been genuinely inspired by God. . In the first three centuries AD many gospels and other texts appeared and were being read as scripture in the various christian communities. Most of these were considered not only to be 'uninspired' but actually heretical by the early christian church so they decided to formally define which works should be classed as scripture. The process was officially completed in 325 AD and it is from here that all our modern Bibles originate. . So the formulation of the Bible itself was an attempt to control the manner in which christians were to worship, although it could be argued that this was influence rather than control. The parallel move by the church to outlaw and demonize most of the gospels and religious texts that were not included in the Bible was however a form of behavior control and marked the beginning of a period in the church's history that became known for it's fanatical persecution of heretics and non-conformists.
