I have been in the Coast Guard for 18 plus years. It seems that almost every boat I ever got on was taking on water in some way or another! I once boarded a shrimp boat that was sinking rapidly with water coming in the engine compartment through a hole ripped in the hull. The boat was going down so quickley that all four of our dewatering pumps were not keeping up with the flooding. We got the boat close enough inshore to beach it in shallow water and had a salvage crew come out and patch the hole well enough so that the boat could be towed to a haul out facility. The water was completely over the engine and the salvage crew had to use scuba gear to make the repair. What fun!!

I've been in a houseboat that started to dive and got way under water. Very scary! But usually it's just horseplay in the canoe or having too many dogs in the center of the canoe and leaning to one side lol!

I've been on loads of boats that capsized, I used to race dinghies. Very often I could capsize it and right it again without ever getting wet above my shins - provided I won the race for the centreboard as it went over.

When my daughter and I went white water rafting, our raft tipped over when going through some rough water. It was scary, lickily we were with others that helped us out! :)
