Willpower is your own resolute determination to achieve some goal. Perseverance and tenacity are similar terms. Willpower is generally assumed to be positive. ex. She made it to the tournament's final round when no one thought she'd get half that far. Her willpower made it almost impossible for her to give up. Willful, on the other hand, means headstrong, or deliberately disobedient, and has a negative connotation. . ex: Zach was almost 21, but if he was cranky, he slammed doors, cursed, and acted just like a willful child. Petty Officer Nobrains willfully disobeyed Lt. Goodguy's order not to leave the ship before the inspection was over, and now he's on report. Uh-oh. Hope this helps.
