Some Christians believe they will go to heaven immediately after death. Others believe they will sleep in the grave until Jesus' return. Still others don't believe in an afterlife. What effect does this disagreement have on Christianity's unity and image?

None! The general public does not know about those fights there are far more public problems between the factions that call themselves followers of Jesus Christ. He said that not all who call Him lord will enter into His kingdom. Therefore what you see is not always what you have got!

I think it's one of the things that divides Christianity.. Many groups (that people I know belong to) think that they are right and everybody else is wrong.

I used to be a christian of sorts (in the form of a catholic) from my now outside POV, the discrepencies between all variations of christ based religions, even within catholisism, has only made me disaprove of them more. Not to say im not spiritual, or that i hate christians (i really dont) or dont believe in "God." I just think its rediculous that theres dozens of factions that believe in the same general story yet have strikingly diferent approaches as to how one should live their life, all the while silently (when not violetnly) condeming the other. Jesus' message was about love and compasion; not arguing over who knows more about what he favors. Just saying how i feel. Dig the Avatar "NH baritone"

I don't think that it necessarily has any effect on Christianity's unity and image...because I don't really believe that anyone knows exactly what happens to us after death. Tom Robbins was right when he said "the dead are laughing'---they have all the answers.

I don't believe Christianity has an image of unity in the first place- there are more separate factions of Christianity than of any other religion. The core concepts of the faith are so self-contradictory that people have to accept parts by rejecting other parts, creating rifts based on which parts are accepted or rejected.
