The Jews use the telephone. Ring ring. -- Wake up, or you'll be late for Synagogue. -- Oy vay, I'm on my way.

No Christian churches I have ever attended used a bell to tell us it was time to sit and pay attention. A scolding from the pastor when the piano playing was not hint enough - THAT was used plenty, lol. Do you mean, like a CHURCH bell, as in a belltower or steeple? AKA "Little House on the Prairie"? :-) Some have fake "chimes" that play before and after services, maybe cuz real bells are expensive? Been to a "contemporary" mega church that had LOUD "christian" rock blaring over outside speakers, into the parking lot. Before services. Can't say I felt "called to pray" by it! I think Roman Catholic may still use a bell when they reach the transubstantiation part of the Mass. (the bread and wine transforming into 'literal' body and blood of Jesus) I know one gets rung at the altar. The old Catholic cathedrals have real bells they ring for church, in our old ethnic neighborhoods like Little Italy. Messianic Jews have the "shema" sung by the congregation, in Hebrew and then English, here in America. Gets us focused on the Torah part of services, and affirms the position "Israel, our God is ONE"...
