I live on the west coast.. never seen the sunrise.. watched lots of sunsets though..

I watched the sunrise in Sicilly with my dad .It was very relaxing , but I was knackered by than and we were climbing Mt Etna in few hours time. OUch!!! But it was well worth it!

When I was younger, I stayed up all night and watched the sun rise in Tucson, AZ. It was absolutely beautiful: the sky got all streaky red and it reflected off the mountains. It was breathtaking.

It looks like this from about 3 miles off the east coast of Florida. I got up early to go fishing. Got sidetracked by the sunrise and shot this with the cell phone.

I don't know about staying up all night just to watch the sunrise, but Muslims are supposed to get up just before dawn for the dawn prayers. Where there are mosques you'll find people making their way back home from the dawn prayers in the mosques by which time it is sunrise. So witnessing the sunrise is part of daily life for Muslims all over the world. I find it a very peaceful time of the day. I also like sunsets and the tranquility it brings in its wake. Of course in the northern hemisphere in winter sunrise can be so late that almost everyone is out and about before sunrise.
