Linda Joy Than is a comparative term. As in less than or more than. The word you're looking for is then which points to a place in time. Also your be verb is singular with a plural subject. It should say Why do people, not does. And lastly it doesn't have to make sense to you. Its their post, not yours.

It's a weakness where people have to have someone pay attention to them. That's one of the dangers of social media. No self-worth.
