  • No, but I was saddened when Stevie Ray Vaughan died -- after he'd successfully completed rehab and released another hit album. The timing couldn't have been worse. Losing Freddie Mercury was bad too. One of the most talented vocalists and unique songwriters who ever lived.
  • Well I got teary-eyed when Christopher Reeve passed away. He lived such a valiant and noble life after that terrible accident..and then his wife passed away from lung cancer, I think. It just seems too unfair.

  • A few times, Steve Irwin lately. Bob Ross the painter. Freddie Prinze because it seemed so senseless.
  • Yes, but I do not remember now whose death made me cry. I was shoked everytime that somebody whom I liked was dead particularly if it happened before they reached old age. For 2007, I think about: - Georg Danzer, 60, Austrian singer, am July 21, 2007 - Solveig Dommartin, 45, French actress, trapeze artist in Wim Wenders' Wings of Desire, am January 11, 2007 - Robert Anton Wilson (RAW), 74, American novelist, futurist and conspiracy theory researcher, am January 11, 2007 (Source: Wikipedia)

My colleagues asked if someone had died, but I received no sympathy when I told them it was the owner of the first face, and host of the longest running program, on Channel 4. Some genii are never appreciated in their own time.

  • Princess Diana, John Denver, and John F. Kennedy Jr. Don't know why those three.
  • I cried when Princess Diana died.... my two boys are only a few years younger than her boys, so I really felt for them deeply. I also cried when Michael Landon died... he was such an inspiring and amazing man.
  • I didn't cry, but I was pretty damn depressed when Steve Irwin snuffed it.
  • Although I was only 3 when John Lennon died in 1980, I cried watching an episode of Quantum Leap ("The Leap Home", 1989) in which Sam Beckett (played by Scott Bakula) reveals to his sister that John Lennon will be killed.
  • Twice. John Lennon and Stevie Ray Vaughn. I cried for the loss of their music that would never be.
  • John Lennon. I was helping set up the final school assembly (I had just begun teaching that year), and someone came up to me and told me he had been shot. I went to pieces. I still mourn his loss. The very first record I ever bought was a Beatles record, and the Beatles changed the whole course of music and culture forever. Why anyone would want to kill John is beyond me. He was a flawed man (I won't go on with all the guff about him being a saint and all that-he was a violent, troubled person) but he was a brilliant musician and a mover and shaker of opinions. His death ended my childhood I think...just took away the music.
  • I cried for Princess Diana's children. As a mother the look on their faces was heartbreaking.
  • I MIGHT cry when Marilyn Manson or Billie Joe Armstrong die. But I doubt it.

  • I cried for the loss of JFK, not his celebrity but the end of an era, although I was too young at the time to realize it. I just didn't realize until then that such things could happen. I cried for the loss of Princess Di. Although not a fan of the royal family, and not a Brit, it hurt nonetheless; as Auntie Em said, not for her celebrity but her human-ness. And more recently, for the loss of Anna Nicole Smith. I was not a huge fan, but her death was so unnecessary and leaving that beautiful baby motherless and embroiled in such a custody battle just broke my heart.
  • John Lennon. I couldn't believe someone could murder him.
  • Princess Diana.
  • Steve Irwin's death was pretty damn upsetting to me. I thought he was a great guy.

  • I cried buckets when Chris Ledoux died. I loved his music very much, he is the one that got me into country music.
  • Cried? No, but I kinda felt empty when John Lennon was killed. The senselessness of it all was so unfair. One other thing...duri ng that time, there were always rumors about a possible Beatles reunion. When Lennon died, The Beatles died along with him, so it was like 2 deaths. Still saddens me to think about it.
  • Owen Hart. He was a professional wrestler and he had a really terrible accident doing a stunt from the top of an arena. I felt really bad for his siblings (he had 11 but one of them died before he did) especially the 2 closest in age to him (Bret and Diana) I was pretty devastated when Miss Elizabeth died...and Sensational Sherri but (amazingly) not when Chris Benoit or Eddie Guererro died mainly because when i watched wrestling as a child they weren't around.
  • I was deppressed that entire month when "Latino Heat" Eddie Gurrerro died. I remeber flipping through the channels one night when I was probably 5 or 6 and seeing him and Chavo joking around on smackdown, he was probably one of the first wrestlers I ever saw.
  • Lisa "Lefteye" Lopes ( The rapper from TLC) I remember her death just like it was yesturday. I miss her sooooooo much. A lot of people want to know how can i cry or miss someone I never knew personally.but they will never understand until someone they look up to is gone. The media labeled her as "crazy" but there was more to know about her. Lefteye was extremely talented, creative, intelligent, spiritual and im so thankful that God put her in my life in some way. RIP Lisa!!!!!!!!!

Oh I love him so much he was so kind hearted and his lyrics touched my heart besides all the cussing. :) I didn't cry when Aaliyah or Lisa Lopez died but those were tragedies too. Oh I also got teary-eyed when I saw Kanye perform days after his moms passing. If Beyonce ever died I don't know what I would do! We would be losing Music's Best Thing!

  • I can honestly say that when Sonny Bono died, I was a wreck, and cried for days. Now mind you, I was born in 1969, but I remember as a small girl watching The Sonny and Cher show. I always loved Sonny, and I realized, even as a small child, that he was the brains behind the whole operation. I remember, hearing the news of Sonny's death, whe I was living in Florida with my husband and son. I was glued to the television with a pack of ciggerettes, a bottle of wine, my ashtray, lighter, and a box of kleenex. I used the entire box of that kleenex, especially when Cher got up to speak about Sonny, and said, "He will always be my Son to me". I was sad, and sick to my stomach for days.
  • Sir Edmund Hillary. He was very dear to people around NZ Although he is not a celebrity, he was an inspiration to all of us growing up
  • I have never cried when a celebrity died. But if someone I have been a fan of for a long time dies I will then probably cry if not cry be very upset.
  • I was a kid when Freddie Prince died. I cried. I thought he was so funny and adorable.
  • I cried when Sonny Bono died, and when I watched Cher cry giving the eulogy also. Some people thought she was faking it, no way was she. Cher is not one given to tears, even her mom says that. So deep down, despite it all, & if anyone heard what she said, she gave him all the credit for her becoming famous. I think Sonny could have done some good in Congress, but I guess it wasn't meant to be, for reasons we'll never know.
  • Christopher Reeve and Barry White boo hoo
  • John Lennon. (Imagine)

  • I come pretty close to it... like when I heard of George Carlins passing... that was really sad...
  • Sometimes. Already commented here to maddienco about Princess Diana. That was a "larger than life" time when I certainly cried. --- I feel sad when we lose some public figures. Think there's a mix of losing the person themselves, but also something else that they "represent", if that makes sense. Somehow, it's not just a loss to an immediate family but for the world .. all of us. I cried a short while back - not even when the person died (that was 11 years ago!) - but when I saw a PBS special about the life and career of Jimmy Stewart! Johnny Carson (another icon in a different way) and he were walking about an empty set remembering his acting career .. the early innocent films, his military service, on through all his westerns and forward again through all the "gifts" he gave us on the screen. It was like seeing two old friends together - complete with video clips. I laughed a bit and cried a bit. Warm and wonderful moments. Guess the answer is yes. And, seems there's both a personal reason (the person) .. and .. that something "else" they did or had or gave .. that makes those certain few a loss to "all of us".
  • No. Not that I don't feel bad when someone dies, but come on.

  • Fred Rogers. The death of Mr. Rogers was like losing a part of my childhood.
  • The first time, Phil Hartman. His death was a senseless tragedy. The last time, Tim Russert. I heard the news (my TV is usually on MSNBC in my office) literally 1 or 2 hours after it occurred. I sat in shock, tears running down my face as they reported it. Watching KO attempt to do his show that day also brought tears to my eyes...I am an extremely empathic woman and I felt his pain. Thinking of Luke loosing his father broke my heart as well.
  • I cried like a baby when Dale Earnhardt died. It was terrible. Steve Irwin brought a tear to my eye as well.
  • When Princess Diana died I cried, especially watching the funeral. Other than that, celebrity deaths, while sometimes shocking, rarely lead to tears for me.
