  • Yeah digital cameras are already at a point where the average consumer doesn't need anything better. From here on out everything is aimed at the pros, people whose images are or may be blown up to billboard size and still have to look good.
  • Flexibility for the most part. The two main aspects of technology that camera makers are focusing on (no pun inteded, seriously) pixel density, measured in mega pixels and acuacy of pixel readings... various points that could be measured here, the most common is noise ratio. Advancement of both these areas can lead to small format cameras with simmilar density and clarity of a medium format cammera (arguably) and at the least, help with enlarging pictures. Some other adcvancements: making CCD's that are much more sensitive to light, allowing for nighttime pictures or very low light pictures without the need for as much ambient light. CCD's with much more speed as well as processors with higher speed and bandwith (when you increase megapixels, you need a faster more powerfull CPU to process the picture. hence why cheaper cammeras take longer between pictures) Apart from that, i agree with you; consumers dont, and probably wont know the diference. even some profesionals dont... especially when you throw photoshop in the mix.
