It's easy to look at different conflicts in our world and blame religion for the wars there.eg:Ireland and the Middle East. When it comes right down to it humans start wars. They want more land, money whatever and decide to fight over it. Many leaders of nations over many generations have called their wars holy Because that sounds better than saying "let's kill people so we can have their oil, or fertile land etc. Once started wars are hard to end especially when the fanatics jump on the bandwagon and convince the people that they are fighting for their God. In my opinion the Gods really don't want people killing each other in their name.

No, I think religion is just an excuse for mankind to continue its downward spiral. These days it seems like wars, riots, murders...they happen for just about any reason you can imagine. And NONE of them are legit.

Hmm i think religions are based upon 'beliefs' and arn't beliefs founded by ourselves? most wars seem to start because of a conflict because of these beliefs! so i guess i am saying yes! :) and for as long as we all have different beliefs there will always be conflict :)

It's one of many reasons. I think the common thread is mankind's inherent nature. Doubt if you'll ever hear a news report declaring that peace has broken out somewhere.

No. Religions themselves are not animate objects/beings, and can CAUSE nothing. They are beliefs. It is people's belief that they have the absolute truth that they have the right to force on others (ego) that causes war.

I don't think so. I think most wars are fought because side A wants what side B has. Religious beliefs may be the excuse to take what side B has; but, it is not the root cause.

Many religions - certainly Christianity and Islam - take to their logical extreme can, yes. There were centuries of war in Europe over minor difference in Christian dogma. The civil war in Iraq is the same thing. And if you believe god is on your side then it "morally justifies it. Wiping out whole cities of godless heathen is fine. Also, if people believe in heaven then death may not seem so bad. Of course it's people doing the dirty work usually for human reasons - but religion can make the justifying an awful lot easier.

No. I do not think religions start many wars at all, even though they are blamed for many. Most wars are started by human beings who are scared, lustful, lazy, greedy, angry, jealous, and/or prideful. And the few times in which religions do start a war, it is usually fundamentalist extremists and not mainstream believers who are responsible. With love in Christ.

most people nailed it. PEOPLE start wars for their own personal reasons; Religion gets pulled in afterwards to make the war seem legit. . .Jesus wandered around preaching but didn't recruit soldiers. that stuff came later.
