mostly my son talks about his day and tells me what is on TV (even as I sit next to him and watch). My daughter is still babbling so I have yet to discover what she is saying, although it is full of emotion and intelligence and I am sure she knows what she is saying - I just wish I did! I like to talk to both of my children about anything and everything - what makes plants grow, why it is sunny or why it is going to rain soon, how to cook bread and why it rises...just about anything I am doing I do my best to involve one or more children and talk to them about what I am doing and why. I think it is fun, my son asks lots of questions and learns a lot I think :o)

We talk about life, their life's, my life, our life. Sometimes they talks and I listen, other times it's reversed. Probably the biggest help is to put ourselves in a position to talk. In the car, a walk, some alone time, whatever it takes. We also don't keep it a secret how important we are to each other on a regular basis.

My children are grown now but all of their lives we talked with each other about everything. And I do mean everything. We also listened to each other. Now, in their 20's, we speak several times a week by phone. They have always trusted me to hear what they were trying to say without judgement, but it wasn't always easy for me to do. I knew that if I began to inject judgement into it they would stop talking with me and wouldn't be able to come to me if they needed help. My mom treated me this way and she and I are still open with each other.

Considering my son is 16 months old we generally talk about "Ball." and "Puppy." Sometimes we mix things up a little and talk about "Poopie."

My daughter is now 28 but we talked about everything when she was growing up.

We talk about anything and everything. Right now, she's telling me how we need to clean up the earth. We just got finished talking about being naked, going poopie, laundry (and where to put it), daddy being sick, mommy not being sick anymore (by order of the little girl), going shopping, being patient, eating lunch, what to eat for lunch, grapes, how those leaves are actually called spinach, but she likes just calling them leaves for the little-girl-horsie to eat with "sauce" (salad dressing). Today, we've talked about sea shells, and where they come from, ice crystals, traveling, going outside, summer and winter, hot and cold, fast and slow, tickling, various relatives, a couple of books, letters, and... hmmm. it's a bit too quiet. Where'd she go this time?
