  • most christians do not take the bible literally. 7 days probably refers to 7 periods of time..ages, eons, etc... Also if you go back to the original hebrew the word used had several meanings..including *a period of time*...Also just as Jesus taught using parables and allegories...so I don't know why some have a problem seeing that the Old Testament contains the same type of parables and allegories.
  • I would say it is a belief system based on fantasy.Remember that it was written when very few were educated and science was in it's infancy. Now with the modern age these beliefs should fall by the wayside because they don't fit modern times. Also 7 was a mystical number many centuries before the old testament. Many mystical numbers and symbols were taken from previous philosophies.
  • The whole myth about God, and or Gods has been disproven by science. The fact that there are so many intellegent people who belive in these myths,is the reason so many people die in the name of God, Allah, or what ever you want to call him. These "scriptures" or what ever they are called, in one of the many religions practice, were a way to scare people into being "Good People," before there were modern way of law in society.
  • No. I believe the entire Bible to be true and the infallible Word of God, both Old and New Testaments. I believe that God created the earth in 6 days and rested on the seventh. Science has not "proven" God or His Word wrong. I hope that this is helpful. -In the service of the Lord Jesus Christ. Thank you and God bless you!
  • God simply CAN NOT LIE. The entire Bible is TRUTH. God is Holy and cannot sin.
  • To God a day is as a thousand years and a thousand years is as a day. No I do not think He created the world in a calendar week.
  • Where has science proven that the world was not created in seven days? There is no way it could, nor would it even try. Science has proven little, in fact. Most things are still theories, because they are not observable. It is such with the creation of the world. Based upon certain theories, the age of the world and the various developments have been estimated. But, if even one theory is revised (and they often are) ages are changed. Even the great Stephen Hawking does not rule out the existence of a deity. He may have an intellect that makes mine look like a 3mo baby's, but he is not arrogant enough to say that scientists have disproven anything.
  • The bible was written 200 years after the death of Christ. How can anyone possible believe that these stories or scriptures have not been altered and exagerrated over time? Does anyone remember the childhood game telephone? Now imagine 200 years of playing telepone, keeping in mind many people could not read or write.
  • None of us were around to measure or define a day that far back.
  • Where in the Bible does it say that the Old Testament is the exact truth? Even if you believe in the Divinity of Jesus (as you must, to be Christian) where did He say that every word of the Old Testament (or the Torah, as he would have regarded it) is precisely accurate? The Old Testament is th narrative of the Jews, who may have been the Chosen People, but were certainly People, telling about the world as they saw it. But, unlike Jesus, they were "just folks". The stories they told were "just folks" stories, *not* God's Word. What Jesus said, in the Gospels, should be taken seriously; what folks said, in the Old Testament, is folk-tales. Valuable for knowing the background against which Jesus spoke, but just Folks Tales.
  • 1) The Old Testament ist not a lie, it is a mythical story. The world was not created in 7 days, as shows scientific evidence. If God exists and is omnipotent, it should be no problem for him to break his own rules. These rules were not made for him to use, anyway. Incidentally, there is also a New Testament, which tells a lot of other things. For instance that the 10 Commandments not the most important thing are. (Jesus gave just 2 Commandments, instead of the old ones). 2) This is my opinion, anybody can have another opinion. This is my truth, anybody can have another truth. This is what I think, according to my knowledge and to my experience, you can have your own thinking. Maybe you have learned something else, or think you know something else. You can stay in your belief, or hear what I have to tell, and maybe think about it. I could also be wrong, so do not trust me blindly and check it for yourself.
  • God can command a thing into being as the Hoy Qur’an (HQ) puts it in HQ 2:117 according to Mr Pickthall’s translation from the original text “The Originator of the heavens and the earth! When He decreeth a thing, He saith unto it only: Be! and it is.” In HQ 50:38 using the royal “we” God declares “And verily We created the heavens and the earth, and all that is between them, in six days, and naught of weariness touched Us.” This verse refutes any idea of God needing a rest after creating. Of course a day can be any duration of time. Even in our own little solar system a day covers different durations of time for example a day on Venus is equivalent to 243 of our earthly days whereas a day on Jupiter is less than 10 hours of our earthly day. Similarly the HQ has different durations for a day, one of them is given in HQ 32:5 which says “He directeth the ordinance from the heaven unto the earth; then it ascendeth unto Him in a Day, whereof the measure is a thousand years of that ye reckon.”
  • Not so. All that has been proven is the age of the world and even that is uncertain.
  • The old testament creeps me out. All the people lived to be several hundred years old, and apparently most of them were incestuous as well. I don't believe a word of it.
  • Well, a "day" refers to a defined period of time, most often between daylight and night. Read this, Genesis 1:14: 14 And God said, "Let there be lights in the expanse of the sky to separate the day from the night, and let them serve as signs to mark seasons and days and years," All this happened on the FOURTH day. So if the "signs" to mark seasons and days and years were created on "DAY 4" then how were the 6 "days" measured? So the 6 days do not in any way refer to 24 hours. It is up for interpretation on both sides: It could have been 24 hours, but THROUGH the use of science we could call it X-amount of years. So science does not need to contradict the Bible at all, it can support it rather.
  • these books were written by humans. dont base your religion on any of these, Koran, torah ..etc... The only significance i see in the bible is that it has some stories (true or not) that demonstrate morals and ethics that everyone should have. i personally believe in god, but i don’t believe in religion.
  • Yes, unfortunatly, thats Primitive Men for ya, creating personification out of the sun(jesus) moon(allah) and Sky(Jahwah) but unfortunatly some people are still primitive and still believe in these personifications, as true real life story ASIF someone walks on water and made people out of Clay, Clay, if were made of clay we would smash easily AKA bullshit
  • When the Bible describes the Creation, it emphasizes "it was evening and it was morning" one day, second day etc. To me, that says that the Bible wanted to establish a standard time period that applied equally to all 7 days. The Bible also wanted to give us a frame of reference we are familiar with- evening + morning = day, so we'd know Creation took place in 7 24 hour periods. As for science, the big handicap science has is that it can only look at history backwards from where we stand now. Calculating the universe's age is something like doing forensic tests at a crime scene. You see the aftermath of the crime, and then have to piece the puzzle together based on the clues left at the scene. Now, if you do take the Bible seriously, then you believe that Adam was created as an adult- so were all the animals, fish and birds. A forensic test of the five-minute-old Adam would indicate that he was already, say, 30 years old. Logically, the universe could also have been created as an "adult", meaning on day one it could have had all the fossil, carbon, star-formations etc. - evidence of being around for millions or even billions of years. I don't think G-d was lying- He may play to hard to get, but He doesn't lie.
  • He's God. He can do what he likes. "Oh, but the evidence says otherwise", you say. Well that is the evidence we have now. What of the evidence we discover next year or next century? What if we discover proof of his existence next year, proof he doesn't exist the following year, and proof that he does exist the year after that? How will we ever know that we have all we need to know to prove one way or the other conclusively for all time to come? We know alot of cool stuff, we've built alot of cool toys, but face it: there is still a tonne of stuff out there that we don't know. You think creating the universe and the earth in six days is fantasy? That's just 'cos our scientists haven't yet figured it out. Go ahead, ignore the Bible and just start reading science magazines and look at the latest theories at the edge of our knowledge. Sure, the evidence is there, the maths backs it up, but some of those theories are just as fantastic as the Bible. God doesn't favour scientists. He isn't gonna reject someone who hasn't got scientific proof that he exists or favour someone who has. Most people don't know how electricity works but they use it anyway. Feel free to search for God, but in the mean time what are you going to do? I'd say most of us choose whether or not to believe in God and then look for 'evidence' to back our decision (just like all our other 'decisions' - go to sales school!) Who should we ignore: the religious people who lose their faith or the atheists who find God?
  • My beliefs...yours may differ and I would not presume to say you're wrong: The OT is not a lie, He has no reason to lie, He is supreme and does not have to justify anything He says or does. Everything belongs to Him except for the will of mankind. God saw that man was unable to follow his laws, given his free will, so He provided a way for us to reach Him and His kingdom. He sent Jesus to pay the price for our sins in advance, all we need do is accept His sacrifice and do the best we can to abide by His will. As for the world being created in 7 days, I think it is entirely possible, but I think that when the Bible refers to a morning and an evening being a day, it actually means an age or era. Remember, in the Bible it says that to God, a day is as a thousand years and a thousand years is as a day. Time has no meaning to an eternal Being. Man was created in God's image could very well mean that he was created as a "reflection" of what God intended for him to become...or not. I believe that all was created by God in such a way as to allow for evolution to enable His creations to adapt to changing environments. Sometimes His creations served a certain purpose in a certain era and when their purpose was served, they became extinct..in some cases, mankind has "helped" that along. The Bible is a great mystery and has been interpreted in many different ways, the only way one will know the truth for sure is when they take their very last breath. The one thing I do know for sure, if you try and follow what is set forth in the Bible, it will only serve to make you a better person and have a more positive impact upon your surroundings. Some people follow what they interpret or want it to mean and that is not the same thing. Jesus was sent to teach us by example the way we should go. We should show kindness, tolerance (do not judge) and love toward our fellow man. Even if you do not believe in Jesus, God or the Bible, how can that be a bad thing?
  • i haven't read it yet so i don't know!
  • Well, I am not Christian or Jewish but have had conversations regarding this issue. The 7 days to create the earth is relative to Gods days, not Earth days. What was 7 days for God is different then how we perceive days. So, taking the Old Testament as real, time is relative to who ever is experiencing it.
  • hindsight is 3030 or 40 or 1 who really knows might even be zero, we will have to wait till the end!
  • you should know more on your subject. The Word tells us that a day to YHVH is as a thousand years to us. No, that doesn't mean 7000 years either. It even tells of a time before, where there was great technology(atlantis) and cities. They were destroyed and this is Gen. picks up. Note the term void. You can not void (nothing).
  • I believe that God did create the world in 7 days. God is in control of time in a manner that we cannot concieve. God can accelerate time in a manner that what could take millions of years (in our thinking) and condense it to just a few days or hours such as he decides. Our understanding of God (or lack of) does not define God, just our perception. A couple of things. God does say that mans wisdom is foolisness to him. God does say that he can hold the universe in the palm of his had. There is science that supports that "In the beginning" matter was so dense that the universe could indeed be held in the palm of a mans hand. Now don't get all excited by science and God. Mans wisdom, that is wisdom that does not line up with God's wisdom is foolishness. God created science, in how He created the universe. To seek God, it is imperative that you ask Him to reveal Himself to you. Ask in a manner that is truly heartfelt from you. Just say I don't know if you are real or not, please show me. Just hang on, He will reveal Himself to you, where you will have no doubt'
  • he could have??? when he says you should not that does not mean he will stop you
  • From Prince David: It says in the second chpt of Genesis, and they were created in the generations of heavens and earth, KJV. Also, the earth was already here, and the sun came as a light later, so He was NOT speaking of earth days. Never doubt, the 7 days are seven works and periods even ions. We have a choice to believe or doubt, that is why there is doubt; but never choose the doubt.
