Talk to her about it. Listen to her and she will listen to you. Try to understand what she is saying and have her try to understand you too. Communicate with eachother and understand one another. Explain to her how you feel about this.

Try to communicate and try to put the 17 year old in the situation that others are in. HOwever, having said that and having teenagers myself, it is very difficult to get them to look at things from other perspectives. I truly believe that teenagers live by the philosophy of the new "Holy Trinity": Me, Myself and I. Their world is everything that they can reach. Granted this is a generality but talking with other parents it seems to fit.
