  • Because you would be too if someone said something bad about your hometown/state. People have a very negative idea about NYC and the surrounding areas. So we protect it. Plus after 9/11 we get very defensive because it was such a hard blow. No one knows what that was like unless you were there. I WAS THERE. Don't talk about my home like that, or you can take a swim in the Hudson with some cement floaties.
  • What do you mean we get offended! How dare you! You've got a lot of nerve! Put your face up against the monitor so I can slap you into next Tuesday! lol lol lol....... Seriously though, we just take a lot of pride in our city, and unfortunately get a little too carried away and think we're the center of the universe sometimes. Especially when you grow up here, and know it's one of the most visited places in the world, you develop a fierce loyalty and want others to do the same. Come visit us though! I promise we won't bite;)
  • Because these are people who have: Never visited New York. Visited for one day/week. Do not like the city to begin with.
  • I live in NY and you are free to bash it anytime you like.
  • I loved New York its a fantastic city and hope to return in the near future.
  • there's a nuber of reasons 1. nobody likes to hear bad things about their hopmetown. 2. it happens to be a city with alot to take pride in. 3. most critsisms are just (incorrect) stereotypes. 4. people are jealous coming from whatever small town they're from and feel the need to justify themselves. 5. it has so much there has to be something you like about it.
  • I'm a NYer and I don't think we defend NY anymore than anyone else would defend their own home town. I just think sometimes NYer get a bad rapp...it's a stereotypical thing!
  • Maybe just because it's awesome and people should say nice things about it. I honestly think that anyone could find something to like about it. And I think everyone has some territorialness about their city/state. It's natural to be defensive about where you come from. It's almost like...a dig on YOU if someone knocks the place where you live.
  • I think you're making a generalization, to be honest. Everyone reacts the same when you bash the place they live, if they truly love it there.
