How bad does your dream have to be for you to wake yourself up?

Dreams don't genrally wake me up. It has to be absolutley horrible for the dream to wake he up.

Well, in order to wake myself from a bad dream I have to be having a lucid dream (a dream where you realize that you're dreaming and can control the outcome of your dream) which rarely happens (I have many lucid dreams but not many lucid nightmares). I had a horrible dream last night of being at the hospital and having to drink this horrible drink so they could do an MRI of my brain. They then found out that I had a fairly large brain tumor and they weren't sure if it was going to be operable or not. It was probably pretty close to the worst dream I've ever had, but I couldn't wake myself from it.
