  • Big difference. Mary was a historical person in a historical town in a period in history that can be identified from internal and external evidence. Isis is none of these...also, you must be careful when you speak of Isis worship, as there are big differences between the theology of Isis in the 5th dynasty when she first appears in literature and the Graeco-Roman era, when she becomes identified with many of the other earth goddesses of the empire...it is then that the figure of Isis absorbed elements from outside. egFirst mentions of Isis date back to the Fifth dynasty of Egypt which is when the first literary inscriptions are found, but her cult became prominent late in Egyptian history, when it began to absorb the cults of many other goddesses. It eventually spread outside Egypt throughout the Middle East and Europe, with temples dedicated to her built as far away as the British Isles. Pockets of her worship remained in Christian Europe as late as the 6th century. Wikipedia.
  • No. I think it was an addition from the Hellenistic period. The further and further away that a Gospel was written from the date that Yeshua lived the more spectacular they are and the more you can see a Hellenistic influence in the literature. I does sound very suspect to me.
  • "Mary, who conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee." I hope this answers your question.
  • As to the first part of your question: This is a matter of faith and cannot have a 'factual' answer as we understand facts today. There is no way to scientifically prove or disprove the claim/belief. As to the second part: yes, many ancient religions share much with each other - creation myths, flood narratives, etc. It doesn't mean that anyone is confusing one religion or one of its aspects with any other religion; it just measn that many religions share features with each other. Many religions and cultures have a 'newborn child rescued from assassination' narratives; for example Judaism/Christianity have Moses and Jesus.
