I would've in 1635! ;-)

Disagree, because atheism implies no such thing. I have nearly zero faith in man, but I have absolute zero faith in something nonexistent.
-
huh, i don't get it?
-
Not believing in a God does not mean that you necessarily believe in Man's ability to solve anything. They are unrelated.
-
I disagree. As an atheist (or non-believer, as I prefer), I have no faith in anyone. Having faith in something (especially man) just sets you up for disappointment. My creed is to do good to others, be the best person you can be and enjoy your life. I don't need to believe in anything to be happy. Where did you hear this information anyway?
-
Independent of whether or not God exists, Atheism's problem is that it thinks we can come up with new solutions to age old problems that will be superior to what has passed the test of time in religion.
-
Faith, according to the dictionary is : "COMPLETE trust or confidence in someone or something". So, I'll have to disagree there.
-
Implied or stated faith in man. Agreed.
-
The individual chooses his course in life ,believer or non believer ,will not mean that you better than anyone else, to have faith is your choice and i have faith in people i am not christian, but i am a genuine person who respects what people want to believe in, so let people live by there choices it is there right.+4

Who got herself out of the street when she was 18? Me, not God, as I recall.
-
Atheism is not humanism, and does not necessitate a belief that humanity is capable of not losing its car keys, much less solving its own problems. While some atheists are humanists, not all are.
-
Disagree. I have complete faith in myself to solve my problems. In fact, it is me who solves my problems, not a non existant God. The problem with religion is that it implies man has no ability to solve his own problems, and when exactly was the last time God actually solved anything??
-
You are asking this question here because you have faith in 'Man' to answer it, apparently.
-
False. Atheism is a descriptor that describes those who lack beleif in a deity. It does not even address mankinds abiltiy (or lack thereof) to do anything.
-
Atheism implies that the person can think for himself and does not need somebody else to get through his or her life.
-
Uh, no, I think there is considerable evidence that man has tremendous accomplishments. There is every reason (NOT faith or belief) to think that will continue. I do not have "faith" in man; rather I have concrete evidence of man's abilities, starting with myself.
-
As an atheist I don't have faith in anything. I have proof that myself and other humans help me solve my problems. Heck even my cat helps me out when my problem is sadness and lonliness. God has yet to help me solve a problem. Even if I did believe, I was under the assumption that you asked god to give you strength to solve your own problems, not magically solve them him/her self. God helps those who help themselves, am I right?
-
Not agreed by a long shot. A: Your premise - that atheism entails faith in man - is flawed because it's not necessarily so. Some atheists may have no faith in man whatsoever, and, conversely, many religious people do have faith in man to solve his own problems. B: Man does solve his own problems. Case in point: I was hungry earlier. I ate dinner. Problem solved.
-
I repeat my question: Why is it necessary that there be a solution to every problem? You seem to be working under the classic Cartesian argument: God exists, therefore God exists. Well, you know what? That's called a logical fallacy.
-
What???.....so where have you been for the last few thousand years then?
-
Uh, no, not agreed. "Atheist" is only a word used to describe a person who does not think gods are real. That's it. It is not "faith in man to solve problems" - it is "well, if a problem is to be solved it will be up to us". That is very different. Instead of relying on some imaginary sky-daddy or sky-mummy to fix it all for us, we are on our own. That means if some problems are not solved, we also suffer the consequences - which may well be extinction of our species.
-
I have plenty of evidence to prove men have solved many problems, but have yet to see a god solve shit ..EVER! Agreed?
-
No - you miss the point entirely.
