  • We have to keep hoping and keep faith in the system, Sherri7. What more do we have? And we are ultimately the monitors of our elected servants. We hire them and we can fire them. And we can take the time to let them know how well we think they are doing. Most simply don't bother. The greatest democracy on earth is less of a democracy because the people simply abdicate their responsibility. We are taught civics and government in school, but we simply study for an exam and promptly forget it. All the great republics of history died from apathy.
  • Only the US goverment?...its world wide Sherri. The UK and Euro governments are rife with it,it will never change.
  • The outlook is not good. : ((
  • The US govt actually does a lot of good. As with all elements of society and business though, there is always individuals who seek gain for themselves at the cost of others.

  • Unfortunately the People have been bought and paid for by the Media, Big Business, AND the liberal autocracy that believes it is smarter than anyone else. We vote the way we are taught to vote. And since most people are too busy with their own lives to worry about matters of state, there IS no real check or balance against this new form of tyranny. In a way, Obama could be a real blessing. He just might wake The People up. If he doesn't, nobody ever will.
  • Yes. The purpose of an established institution is to "survive" by any means necessary. The originial intent of the founding fathers, in my opinion, was to create a society that would continuously improve itself and rid itself of inherent flaws. Unfortunately, people too easily, or advertisers are too good, are manipulated to believe certain things without skepticism. Conservatives believe liberals are wrong. Liberals believe conservatives are wrong. Then we spend the rest of the time just trying to put one ideology into office just to find that ideology is just as wrong. It's a never ending battle leaving the great majority of people to suffer the consequences in one form or another. +3
  • It's looking that way. Something has to happen soon, but I've been saying that for 40 years. I sure don't know what can be done short of throwing out the old system and putting in a completely new one, after getting all nations to agree to wipe all debts clean.
  • Look, it's not the government... it's us. We have been allowing this to happen for 50+ years. I'm sorry to be so negative, but you just struck a nerve. The average American is straight up stupid. They have been programmed by education and the media with the mind of an infant. People have become passive drones. Our whole culture of consumerism is about instant gratification and pacification of the human mind. It's more important to get a Wii at Christmas time than it is to protect our liberties. Think about how disgusting that really is. People are sheep. It can only be this way if the sheep herders are making it this way. So ask yourselves, why would they want this? What exactly are they trying to create?
  • Yes. There is no fix. We are beyond any doubt, stuck in the middle.
