Whose job is it to instruct children in values and morals, the parent’s right? So what you are telling me is that this father is doing his job by listening to the Bible command given at Deuteronomy 6:6, 7: “These words that I am commanding you today must prove to be on your heart; and you must inculcate them in your son and speak of them when you sit in your house and when you walk on the road and when you lie down and when you get up.” Yes, parents must spend time with their children! That is a role that a father has to play. Would you rather have him hanging out at the pub? Christianity is a challenge. To live as a true Christian, not in name only and to walk in the way of Christ is a challenge. We should not feel intimidated though. It sounds from what you are saying in your question, that you are pulling one way, and their father another. No wonder they do not feel good enough. The opposite of giving our children valuable, necessary, even lifesaving training by instilling values and morals, would be to withhold such training and could be abuse or neglect..

There are two sides to every story, and what you are stating is hearsay. Perryman is correct. A parent can only do what they feel is right.

To answer this question, how about we take a breath and look at it carefully? We are being asked to explain the over-generalized actions of some unknown, unverified individual we have never met toward a family we know nothing about, based on a snapshot shown totally out of context. This question certainly has an answer, but we need much more information to even begin examining it. Even then, we can't really supply a reasoned response. Heavygeesdad, you are the only one who can supply us with the missing pieces to the puzzle. I suspect that you are involved personally in this situation. Bear in mind that we could replace 'jw' with 'Catholic', 'atheist', 'army officer', 'Republican', 'organic vegan' or any number of labels that might represent people with strong views. Perry provided a good general statement of Bible principle. Still, i suspect that this is now what you are seeking. Others have jumped on this to give a simplistic, dogmatic, nearly meaningless diatribe. Maybe everyone can do a favor. Be specific; give examples; tell the truth; speak of what you really know. If you visit this site much and look at the dialog regarding jw's, you will see how reasoned most of our responses are, even in the face of generalized antagonistic insults. If you get to know us as a people, you will learn even more how much we care about all our neighbors and especially our families. We have a few in our midst who are heavy-handed and unreasonable. We hope and pray that they will learn to deal more moderately and display the true spirit of our Christ-inspired teachings and practices. Many of us were badly damaged by the world before becoming jw's. This is no excuse, but it explains why we don't always live up to our ideals. Sometimes, too, family members don't appreciate the persistence we have in trying to show them something we deeply believe is for their own good. What sensible, loving parent lets his child do whatever he pleases regardless of consequence? What government lets its citizens make all their own decisions regarding life-style and conduct? We can say much more on the subject, but this should suffice to bring us slightly closer to the truth of the matter and to reveal the motive of the question and certain responses.

Likely the lack of knowledge or having been asked the right thought provoking questions, keeps many blinded to seeing the errors within their own religion or belief system. In order to reach someone you have to give them convincing proof that makes more sense that what they presently believe or cling to.

Let me tell you of a true life experience I heard this weekend. A woman studies the Bible with Jehovah's Witnesses and her husband wants nothing to do with the faith. She raises their two children with him and takes the kids to JW meetings and studies the Bible with them. One day, the father was at a business meeting and his colleagues were talking about all the problems they are having with their teenage children and how they are drinking alcohol and breaking into their liquor cabinets at home. They ask the father, "What about your children? Do you have any discpline issues with them?" He responds, my wife is raising the children as Jehovah's Witnesses and their conduct is exemplary. Right at that moment he decides to look into the beliefs for himself. All these years his wife's faithfulness to her God and mild Christian attitude eventually "won her husband over without a word". She never preached to him because he told her he was not interested in her religion. Today is he is a dedicated, baptized Jehovah's Witness himself because of the way his wife and children conducted themselves.

This is how a certain father be a real overseer to those children being raised, Head of the family must be followed, but only those are rightful and biblical commands that does not conflict with Jehovah's regulations. As per Jesus New Commandment in John 13:34, But how can be followed consistently with 1John 4:20. This is how we want on our children if they say "Yes" it must be "Yes". Absolutely Parents must also show first on What they talks is on How they do for it.
