The full news message: "In a recent executive order, President Barack Obama banned federal employees from text messaging while driving on government business. Text messaging, or "texting," encompasses more than simply sending a text message via a handheld communication device. It also includes reading the text for the purpose of SMS texting, e-mailing, instant messaging, obtaining navigational information, or 'engaging in any other form of electronic data retrieval or electronic data communication,' according to the order. The executive order is available on the White House website."

I think it should apply to everyone. Only days ago, there was a train wreck because the conductor was texting.

It is not a societal problem it is a stupidity problem. Millions of US citizens say they believe in god - the same idiots who think they are such good drivers that they can safely use a car using less than the full power of their already feeble brains presumably. They probably say a prayer asking their fantasy god to protect them while they ae texting.

Good. Texting while driving is bad. I try to do it only at stop signs/lights, and I've even parked/pulled over a few times.

Its illegal here in Illinois, so why not. I wonder what brought it to that level of attention that it required an exceutive order?

Texting while driving, phoning while driving. The same. They take your mind off driving. I am tired of idiot phoners and scared to death of texters while on the road. They don't pay attention to speed limits or other drivers. They weave all over the place and are just a nuisance at best and dangerous at worst.I think George Carlin had it right...paint guns! Every time you commit an offense you get a shot...after three shots you get eliminated, permanently.;
