An earthquake in NY? I didn't think you got many out there...

Where? In the US? What side of the country? Did it seem big? I need more information. What time? Personally, no I didn't feel anything. It must not have happened on the west coast.

When I was living in Japan. We had tremors all the time. The small ones you could'nt feel but could see, if you had plants in the house. You could see the plants vibrate which was cool. But not until I felt that 5.0 at about 3 am one night. We were awaken by these real loud thuds that I finally noticed were our dressers slamming up against the wall. Scared the crap out of us (thought it was a poltergeist) until we figured out it was an earthquake. Its also interesting to be in a grocery store during a quake. All the rows were waving like how you see in a stadium when a crowd is doing the wave. Groceries EVERYWHERE!! I felt sorry for those clerks having to restock everything.
