I have never heard that a cruise was fattening. If that is the only reason, she should realize that she can still control what she eats and exercise all she wants. I don't want to on one because of the illnesses and too many people have mysteriously disappeared.

What a weird thing to say. It's like me saying 'I don't want to lose weight, I am not going anywhere ever' Weight unless physically constricting should not and will not get in the way of anything. To pass up such an oppertunity because of a couple of punds is quite frankly stupid. Remind your mum that they do not concrete your feet to the floor and pour food down your mouth. There is most likely many activities, a pool and a gym, plus usually a healthy option menu from what I have heard. She will only gain weight if she lets it

Hmmmmmmmmmm............. I have heard ever other reason in the world not to go on a cruise, but gaining weight? I can only say this, my daughter and her husband went on a cruise and never gained an ounce. What is your mothers reasoning behind this statement? Is your mom hiding something?? advise please.

Cruises have all-you-can-eat buffets open around the clock and food catered by chefs available at all hours. If she is lacking will power or is an "eater", she may have a point. However, I if she *really* wanted to go on a cruise, she wouldn't let that stop her. My guess is that it is an easy excuse. There are pools and gyms about most ships as well.

Can't say I blame her. The food and drinks flow constantly! But she should go, anyway. It's so much fun, it's worth it!

Food's plentiful on a cruise, but you have to choose to eat it. Even if your mother did gain weight, it would be negligable over the course of a few days. Today's cruises are much more active and filled with options as well. I get the feeling something else is keeping your mother from getting on a ship. Probe the issue a little deeper and she what her real reservation is.

Many people do gain wieght when on cruises due to the fact that there is so much food readily available for them to stuff their faces with (buffets can be bad). However, I do disagree because we all must have some will power when it comes to food and the actitivities we choose to partake in while on a cruise. There is so much more to a cruise then food and there are always healthier choices when it comes to the types of foods served, you just have to ask. I enjoy going on cruises, I go once a year and love trying all of the classes and try to take advantage of all that is offered and watch what I eat and just because there is an all you can eat buffet doesn't mean you have to stuff yourself to the brim every morning, noon & night!

You could stay home and gain weight just as easily. She doesn't have to eat everytime she sees a buffet. and she can participate in all sorts of activites to keep her busy (much of that depends on age, but still). I will say that it is shown that people who do go on cruises tend to gain some kind of weight, but I also have known people who have gone on a cruise and lost weight simply because of the food choices available.
