I work as a 1099 contractor to a local contractor that has a contract with a large firm. Can the local contractor require me to carry worker's compfor myself, or pay a % of pay for work completed to his fund - his fund is suppose to cover me?

You only have to carry workmans comp. if you have employees.

In some states Employers must carry W/c on their workers.If they weren't paying into the fund you might be stuck. Good Luck * California
