  • This can be a sign your computer's overheating. If the computer is an older model, this can be common. You may also have the unit too close to a wall so it's not getting adequate ventilation. Hope that helps.
  • Your computer may have too many 'drivers' installed on it. I remember it happening on a previous computer that my dad had in the past, and it drove him mad!!!!! He took it for repair, and he was told that was the reason for it turning itself off. If you're doing anything important on your computer, save it often, in case it happens again in future. Hope that helps! JamesD :-)
  • There are multiple reasons for this to occur. 1/ Overheating- clean the dust bunnies out of your PC, especially the heat sinks, using a can of compressed air. 2/A stick of ram that has gone belly up. You can still boot fine, but when the PC tries to dump to ram and finds it's smoked or has errors, it'll restart. 3/ Your power supply is bad- There's very little tolerance for fluctuating juice. If your PSU is failing and doesn't deliver enough, it'll reboot. Those are the most common problems. I find it unlikely that you've installed "too many drivers". Perhaps one that's not quite compatible with a device on your system, but not too many. In any event, you should do an occasional housekeeping mission on the registry. I don't suggest you do it manually unless you know what you're doing. One mistake and you're PC may not boot to windows at all. There are a multitude of registry cleaners out on the market. Registry mechanic is one that I know and works very well.
  • More than likely it is overheating.... check that the cpu fan is working ok but dont touch the inside of your computer while it is running or 'BANG' If the fan is not working it will need to be replaced. Also check that your power supply is clean (no dust or fluff in the fan on the back of your computer). Be Carefull if you not sure of what you are doing get a pro to check it out for you.
  • I too have a similar problem...Sometimes when i start my UPS and then desktop PC(Windows XP Service pack3),it just goes off(shut down),but i get it right in the second or third time...I just had a new hard disk installed and the problem started some 2 weeks after that...If anyone have a solution, plz send it to sujithdan@gmail.com...Thanks
  • Like everyone already said most likely overheating. If it's a desktop you may be able to save it by replacing the fans. If it's a laptop your motherboard is likely fried so you should make sure to back up.
  • I experienced this problem and it was a faulty stick of RAM.
  • Change your operating system, it happened to me when i started using mandriva 2010, and the newest ubuntu. but when i installed fedora 11, nothing has ever happened again. at your service, Jorge Rodriguez
