  • MIND The mind is the term most commonly used to describe the higher functions of the human brain, particularly those of which humans are subjectively conscious, such as personality, thought, reason, memory, intelligence and emotion. Although other species of animals share some of these mental capacities, the term is usually used only in relation to humans. It is also used in relation to postulated supernatural beings to which human-like qualities are ascribed, as in the expression "the mind of God BRAIN The part of the central nervous system situated within the skull. It includes two cerebral hemispheres — parallel masses of deeply furrowed tissue — as well as the brainstem and cerebellum. Its functions include muscle control and coordination, sensory reception and integration, speech production, memory storage, and the elaboration of thought and emotion.
  • The Brain is a solid physically present part of you. The mind is what you 'lose', what you are 'out of', what you can 'wrap around' something. It is the invisible and productive thing the brain contains. Brains are seldom admired; minds are often considered weak or great.
  • According to Cartesiam dualism, the mind is a none physical entity, whilst the brain is a physical organ. Descartes argued that there was a separation between the mind and the physical world as he could doubt that he had a body (are you just a brain in a jar? or an evil demon's dream?) but could not doubt that he had a mind. (Cogito ergo sum) The separation of body from the mind is used to explain why aspects of a person's intelligence and soul could not be explained as physical processes. Even though scientists know a lot more about how the brain works than Descartes did, it is still impossible to say biologically how we get personality or where our hopes and doubts are in the brain because they are not physical entities.
  • The brain is the biological organ inside the skull. The mind is a description of the concept we describe as what we are thinking, analyzing, projecting, etc.
  • The mind is the contents of the brain.
  • There are probably several differences. I think the most obvious is the fact that the brain can be perceived through the 5 senses, meaning it can be seen, felt, smelled, etc. whereas the mind it seems cannot.
  • The mind is like your computer hard drive where EVERYTHING is saved. And the brain is your computers memory, it can only hold so much then it is time to go to sleep and 'save' to the hard drive - the mind.
  • You don't really ever say "brain your own business" or "brain your manners". You don't have a babysitter over to "brain your kids"
  • "Brain" is the computer you buy complete with a Windows operating system. "Mind" is your software trying to use it.
  • The brain powers the body and the mind powers the soul.
  • A doctor could do surgery to open up your skull & look at your brain. It's a physical thing. However, the mind is the high-level processing that occurs within the brain. Also, we all have very similar brains. But the mind is very unique to each of us.
  • The mind is the music...the brain is the radio. The music is transmitted through the radio, it doesn't originate from it.
  • brain is a physical entity and the mind is the way the brain operates.
