  • I think, in a way, that it does make us the dumbest of all. All other creatures on this planet use their instincts to their advantage, while humans, quite frequently, do not. Most animals can tell when something is wrong and will make accurate decisions on what to do, all because of instinct. On the other hand, humans have instinct, but we do not use it as often as we probably should. I think the smartest human being is the youngest one (a.k.a. the newest baby born), because they have not learned anything yet. I know this sounds like it contradicts itself, but I believe that, because we learn to do the "right" thing all the time, we end up making bad decisions. This is because the "right" things that we learn to do are not always so right. Our instinct is truly what is the "right" thing to do. For example, if someone was always taught to be polite to everyone, then they would constantly be polite to anyone they met. So, let's just say that someone asks to help bring their groceries inside their apartment. Even if the "polite" person has a bad feeling about this person, they might still be polite and say, "sure you can help me bring them in" even though they have a bad feeling about them. Then, when they get inside the apartment, the person who helped with the groceries threatens to kill the "polite" person. In this example, what we have been taught overpowers what our instinct tells us. I think this conveys that instinct is far more accurate and "right" than anything else we, as human beings, learn to do. What we learn can sometimes be the one mistake of a lifetime.
