Do you have the feeling that people who say " I owe you one" don't really mean it. And that it is just an emtpy shell.

when i was younger and dumb...: i used to have several roommates. and we noticed the "1 owe you one" needed further definition to avoid being so hollow. when you smoke as much pot as we did i am sure you would notice stuff like this and decide it must be corrected. we defined "one" to be a joint. and we stuck to it. in my defense: i cleaned up a long time ago, went to college, and although i can look back at all the fun we had i can and will never return.

Yeah, most of the time when I've done favors and hear this response, I think to myself "yeah, right". But sometimes I will call them out on it later when I need something, like help moving. Sometimes they pay up, but mostly they don't!

I am more inclined to believe when people say that to me they mean it just as I do when I say it to them. Only my friends say this, and I trust them.
