A 'flood' during those times would probably be perceived much differently today.
-
I believe there could have been a flood in the area that was rather large and seemed like the world flooded... but not a worldwide flood, that's crazy talk. If you believe that, see jamesblack's answer.

In a word: no

G'day Tabithap5, Thank you for your question. I don't believe in the account of the great flood as in Genesis where the earth's surface was covered in water. However, there are references to floods in mythologies in North America, Europe and Asia. I believe that this was based on distant memories of an event. At the end of the last ice age 10,000 years ago, the ice melted leading to significant increases in sea level. The English Channel was formed in this period meaning that what is now the United Kingdom was no longer part of continental Europe. Bass Strait seperating Tasmania and continental Australia was also substantially formed in this period. These increases in sea levels I believe is the basis of great flood stories in various religions and mythologies around the world. I have attached sources for your reference. Regards Reference Wikipedia Deluge (mythology) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_flood#Theories_of_origin Wikipedia ICe Age http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ice_Age#Recent_glacial_and_interglacial_phases Wikipedia English Channel http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/English_Channel

It seems about as plausible as most modern science.
-
Yes, and for those that say science says otherwise and that somethings are older then the bible well God told Job albout a dragon and a dinosaur skeleton and not to be afraid of these thing because he made them just like he made him in Ch42 long beforethese theories like the big bang theory and this other nonsense. I think people discredit the bible mostly because they don't want to believe it can be true because they would have to live their life according to the Bible.
-
I do. There is a lot of evidence to indicate at least a regional flood in the Black sea area at about the time of Noah. And the Bible is not the only ancient text that refers to it.
-
Good question Tab, i do believe in the flood, we can learn a lot from how noah stayed loyal even under much presure and his loyality to God was paramount.
-
Yes. The Bible is not the only text that refers to a great flood around that time. The Epic of Gilgamesh also refers to it. I am not sure it was necessarily as large as people imagine it to be, but I do believe the world was covered with a significant amount of water that would be enough kill Earth's inhabitants.

The Bible gives a credible account of the flood answering the questions, who, what, when, where, why and how. (Genesis 6-9) Jesus Christ believed that the Bible account of the flood was a real historical event that has meaning for us today. (Matthew 24:36-44) We all have the freedom to decide to accept or not accept the account, but the Bible also says that those who accept the account must act on what they believe. (2 Peter 3:3-13)
-
Yes, because it was in the Bible. The Bible is the word of God.
-
Yes. I believe every word of the King James Version of the Holy Bible. -In the service of the Master. Thank you and God bless you!

All Muslims believe in it because it’s in the HQ. but they believe it was a local flood wide enough to drown all those who rejected the warnings delivered by Noah who were destroyed. HQ, 7:64 says “But they denied him, so We saved him and those with him in the ship, and We drowned THOSE WHO DENIED Our token Lo! they were blind folk.” Translated from the original HQ text by Mr Pickthall.

A large flood probably happened at some time in history. It really does not matter. Most Jews and Christians do not take the early chapters of Genesis literally. We believe these chapters tell religious truth and not necessarily historical fact. One of the religious truths is that God created everything and declared all was good. Another is that after the fall and the flood, God renewed His covenant with humans. This was another early step in God's plan of salvation. With love in Christ.

Jesus did and so why should I not also believe?
-
Yes

I believe that all the stories in the bible are just that...stories, and they are meant for you to get what you need to out of them...inspiration, healing, etc...
-
No, I don't. Well, not a global flood anyway. Geologists (who were creationists) worked that out over 300 years ago - even they were happy to say "Well, we'd assumed a global flood, but obviously we were wrong and the Noah story does not refer to a global flood". ALL evidence of geology, archeology and paleontology so completely contradicts the idea of a global flood that it is no longer considered anywhere. Floods happened though, and stories of amazing survival come out of them - easy to see those stories become myth as people seek to work out why the flood occurred and why THESE people lived while THOSE people died...
-
Sure, a flood of that size shows up in several different accounts of history. Did it cover the entire earth. I dont think so. The bible itself only references the hieght of the flood at only 15 cubits. Thats 22.5 feet. Another misconcepton about the flood. Noah took 7 of each clean animals, not just two. He took two of unclean animals.
-
I believe the story of the Great Flood is literal history and the events truely occured. There is considerable evidence for it and the Soviet Union was aware of the Arks presence in Turkey otherwise they wouldnt have banned explorers from locating it.
-
Nope
-
Not a global flood. Maybe a localized flood that was very large and made primitive people think the world was being flooded (the world was a lot smaller to people back then). It's not difficult to think that a very large flood like that would be included in Biblical lore.

75% of the world is covered with sedimentary rock. Sedimentary rock is only formed underwater. Think about it. Actually scientists are coming out with this theory called the "catastrophe theory" Which basically says something Catastrophic happened a long time ago because their is a ridiculously thick layer of fossils which is uncomparable to anything before and after it.
