It was a tragedy when Sting left The Police to start a solo career. Especially when they were at the height of the bands success. I'm not sure what the reasons were, there have been many theories given over the years. It was great that they did reunite awhile back and go on the road again.

I think a lot of it was to do with solo successes particularly Sting's. Also Copeland and Sting did famously have a few altercations. However I think it was the solo careers that did them in more, unlike (for example) Cream where it was the pressure and internal tensions that caused the problems.

I just happened to catch an interview with the guy I forgot his name with the long blonde hair and he said it was drugs.

for the most part it was the differing styles the members were trying to do with the band, mostly relating to sting, and drummer stewwart copeland, sting didnt like his countinued use of reggae style percussion, as well all three of them fought over production values, but for the most part, ppl say say sting was in the wrong, or over the line in these situations

i read an article that was an interview with Copeland. it was that sting was too controlling and woud write a song and not except any of Copeland's or Summer's suggestions.

Sting felt as if it was time to go solo,as he was a little fed up with the punk music scene.
