I was reading in the news paper that more than 1000 police officers have criminal convictions ranging from assault ,curb crawling and even burgalry,do we really want people like this on the forces?or should they be given a second chance?

I think much of the assault is against their families, specifically their wives. I don't think it is a good idea to have criminals policing other criminals just as I don't think it's a good idea to have criminals in our armed services, but we do. We need bodies to fill slots so we reduce our requirements to meet what's available rather than hold out for people who meet our requirements. Happy Thursday! :)

The pay will really need to get better to attract better officers. Also, considering the element of society they have to deal with, they need to know more about it than the average. These do!!!!!!!!!! In our Country, the large police forces have internal investigation units that actually police the police. They are really feared by most police.

1000 police officers out of how many? I mean is this a national poll? A city poll? A state poll? If its 1000 out of lets say 5000 that's is too much to put up with. If it's 1000 out of 300,000 that is a different story although I can certainly understand if many of them have assault charges. Look who they are dealing with. Having said that I should also add that I do not like the idea of criminals being police. We need to look up to our law enforcement and not be afraid of them. So for crimes committed outside of a work related incident (like assault which can have two interpretations) I do not believe they should be given a second chance. They should be above the temptation if they want to wear a badge of honor.
