  • He was a crazy dude =P But I don't know why one would consider him either - mostly because I only have a skeletal knowledge of his history.
  • Common oppurtunist vs. Political genius.. Well first things first, there was nothing common about Aaron Burr in my opinion. He was a democratice-republican, and as previously read in a comment of yours, your opinion is that democratic-republicans were political extremists. And in this situation, I believe that Aaron Burr fits that description. I would say that he was more of a political oppurtunist. In the sense that it seemed that he looked for oppurtunities to advance himself political, with what seems like little regard for the preservation/harmony of the Union. (Ironic seeing as he was our vice president.) This was greatly shown in the Burr Conspiracy in which, although his exact plans are not known. It appears evident that he was intent on creating a Western empire using land from Mexico, the Louisiana Territory, and possibly other territorys. He conspired with other conspirators, one of which later basically ratted him out to the Federal authorties. So in my opinion, may be he was a little bit of both.
