Why do we desire things we know we cant have or that are forbidden?

That would be the whole point- the grass is always greener on the other side- even if we got that thing that we've always wanted- the forbidden fruit if you will- There will always be something else. Why? It's human nature. Sometimes when we get what we know is off-limits there can be some pretty bad consquences. Example: some one else's girl-or guy
