Everybody likes to joun a club of liek minded people. You can support your favourite sports club in the quiet of your home, but it is fun to hang out with fellow fans and trade thoughts on how great they are. Fans of God do the same - get together in crowds to share their fandom and trade ideas an knowledge. The chief of the Church of Scotland is called the Moderator, to show that he is not in any way "in charge" or "the boss", just the guy who keeps the meeting from getting stupid.
