How do you deal with bad memories? Is it true that you may just forget them with time and work, or am I always going to be haunted by things that I've since made better?

It is thought among cognitive researchers that the brain does not forget anything; it just has trouble remembering. So yes time is one of the common interferences that will help you recall the event less, but it doesn't mean it will never burst back up to the surface if you're ever exposed to elements that remind you that particular situation. (just like songs we thought we had forgotten but we start humming along words after years not having heard it)

As for the work part of the question, I think that it's all in the perception you have of the situation that the work needs to be done. "Bad" is a very subjective thing and you probably just need to try to find the positive sides to the situation (even the darkest cloud has its lining). So if ever the memory comes back to you, you might not be as afraid of it and might not even care anymore because you mentally "exorcised" the bad out of the memory, rendering a plain ol'memory.

One thing is for sure, the memory WILL come back. One thing isn't, it's whether or not it will still be BAD to you.
