I've done this. It can be risky though, if he sees you on, and then your gone. Best to keep him blocked until you want to talk.

I think it is rude and immature. If you do not want to chat with him, say so. Games and crap are for kids. Be direct and do what you want to do but be honest. There is no honor in deceiving people. If I do not feel like chatting with someone, I say so. Blocking someone is taking an action against them for something YOU are going through. Play fair

Yeah, and that can cause problems too. if you're really concerned about this, switch your online status settings to "Appear offline".

just appear offline if you don't want to talk to him, that's what I do, and I've noticed he puts his status on away when he doesn't want to talk to people. I once phoned him to ask what was up and he said he was chatting on msn, when I looked sure enough he was away.
