My leather couch had developed a funky smell and I cant get rid of it. It is sour and strong. I have tried vinager and fabreeze. I have always cleaned it and its counterpart with murphys oil. The other one is fine. What could it be?

Check to see if anything has been spilled between the cushions first. Move the sofa away from it's usual position and check the smell does not come from the floor. Have a good sniff around to see if you can find the source. Then try bicarbonate of soda, test a patch for colour fastness you can't see before doing the whole couch. Sprinkle bicarbonate of soda liberally over your couch, on the floor where it stood and down between the seat cushions too, leave it overnight and brush off the next day with a soft cloth, use the Hoover attachment between the cushions. Next gently wipe over with the following mixture, a few drops of lavender essential oil in half a cup of vegetable oil, use it sparingly. The lavender is antiseptic, anti-fungal, disinfectant.
