I have a dachshund and chihuahua. The dachhund seems to always want to eat the chihuahuas poop. Does she lack something in her diet?

I had this problem with my shih tzu and cat. He would try to eat from the litter box or if another cat had "gone" outside he would devour it before I could stop him. I thought the same thing that he was lacking in something but I mentioned to my vet and she said as disgusting as it was it was a common thing for dogs to do. She even went on to say that some dogs would clean out a litter box if allowed. Apparently there is a powder that you can sprinkle on the "poop" that will deter them from doing that. It can be purchased from the vet. My dog stopped doing it so I can't tell you if the powder works.I would contact the vet, and they will be able to tell you more about it's use, and the cost.

Yes it is a disgusting thing but from what I have found out the reason dogs eat poop is that they have such advanced "smell" recepters in their noses that they actually smell the "food" in the poop! They apparently can even distinguish between smells too! I have alos heard that if you put "hot pepper powder" on it they wont eat it...but that doesn't work! My dog loved the Red Pepper powder!! LOL

It could be that your dog is missing something in his menu,I would check on it,or maybe he just wants to keep the place clean!aaaaahhhhh!

both of my roomate's dachshunds eat poo, constantly. We've tried feeding them pinapple, and other meds to stop it. they are just bad and gross.
